Amendment and completeness of some provisions of the Criminal Code regarding juvenile justice

Within the session of the Moldovan Government of 24^th February 2016, were approved the amendment and completeness of certain provisions of the Criminal Code, Enforcement Code regarding strengthening the juvenile probation system by excluding certain coercive measures applied to juveniles and their substitution by educational measures.

The new amendments establish the application of some educational measures on juveniles who have committed an offence. Thus, they will be involved in social behaviour correction programs and social reintegration, attending general education courses required.

The court will take into account the juvenile’s age, social environment in which it grows, and the deadline for application depending on the nature and degree of harm of the crime committed by a juvenile.

The document was developed by the Central Probation Office with the contribution from the Ministry of Justice, in the implementation of the Justice Sector Reform Strategy and aims to provide a child friendly and accessible justice, targeting on the needs and rights of children.
